ITS FALL LASH SHED SEASON!!
Are your lashes falling out? Do they seem more sparse? Did you get them because you were going down south and the retention was absolutely terrible?? This post is for you!
Please share to anyone who may not be aware they are going through this or that it is such a thing. Many people unfortunately just don’t know and it’s my utmost priority and commitment to each of you that you know about it!
Fall is the second round of seasonal hair loss in the year, coming right after SPRING – UGH YES! The bane of every lash techs existence!
Good news is that usually is at its WORST in the Spring as our bodies prepare for the warm summer months but as fall hits our bodies prepare for the lack of humidity and everything goes wonky! The increase in hair loss doesn’t just happen to our eye lashes, but the hairs on our head as well. Our bodies will also begin to increase its oil production to prepare for the seasonal change to keep the hair and skin hydrated. If you notice that your lash retention is suffering more than usual, this might be due to the seasonal shedding season. There isn’t a much you or your technician can do other than wait it out, and schedule more frequent fills.
So what can YOU do to help yourself?
CLEANSE, CLEANSE, CLEANSE!!
I cannot express the importance of cleansing the lashes during this change. (Clients should always be cleansing their lashes, but right now it’s especially important not to forget or skip any days). Allergies are on the increase during this time of year which can cause buildup in the lashes. This buildup plus excess oil production is a surefire way straight to clogged hair follicles adding even more stress to the lashes. You may see more lashes shedding while you cleanse, this is completely normal, although heartbreaking just ride it out!
It's a good idea upon your first appointment to purchase a lash cleanser. Bacteria does in fact grow within the lash extensions and we absolutely want to keep them clean. Give yourself extra time for fills. Because there may be more lashes gone, make sure you book a longer fill, OR most clients who come every three will need to come every 2 weeks and my regular two-week clients will find themselves leaving to come a little more frequently too!
Just breathe. It will be over soon and winter will be upon us!
